of Australia lies in the southern hemisphere and its land
covers an area of some 7,772,535 sq km (3,842675 sq miles).
To the east is the Pacific Ocean and
to the west the Indian Ocean.
Australia
is divided into 6 states.New South Wales, Western Australia,
South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania, and Queensland and
2 territories, Northern Territory and Australian Capital
Territory.
Although Canberra, located in Australian Capital Territory
is the capital of Australia, each individual state and territory
has its own regional capital city.
The Northern
Territory is the most barren of all the states in Australia.
It covers a total area of 1.35 million square kilometres
and its land area is approximately 20% of the whole country.
However, only around 1% of Australia's population lives
here. The state can be split into three distinctive areas,
Top End in the far north, the Middle and the Red Centre
where you will find the famous town of Alice Springs. The

South Wales covers an area of 802,000 square kilometres
and lies on the eastern side of Australia. It is the continents
most densely populated state with some 6.2 million people

located within New South Wales and is just over 2,400 square
kilometres in area. The population is around 300,000 most

covers a total area of 1,727,000 square kilometres and is
located on the east coast of the continent and the population
