Visitor figures released by Australian Department of Immigration

Statistics released by the Australian Department of Immigration have revealed that visitors arriving in Australia between January 2009 and the end of October 2009 totalled 4.5 million. These figures revealed a decrease of one per cent in relation to the same period
during 2008.
Figures also showed 5.5 million people visited Australia during the twelve months leading up to 31 October 2009, a decrease of just one per cent from the same period 2007 to 2008.
Despite the world recession the monthly figure for visitors to Australia in October 2009 were said to be in the order of 485,600 a 6 per cent rise on October 2008.
