Sydneys Chinese New Year Markets

Friday 23rd January sees the Chinese New Year Festival take off with a bang in Belmore Park, Sydney.
Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore MP, will signal the opening of the Festival with fireworks and entertainment at 7 p.m.
The fun packed weekend will include market stalls selling gifts, curiosities and food, music and dance as well as family activities.
Wish for prosperity at the God of Wealth shrine, choose your personal favourite at Chinese Pop Idol, develop your Chinese cooking skills, have a go at Tai Chi or create traditional Chinese lanterns, play Mah Jong or just watch as dancers and martial arts experts strut their stuff.
Sydneys Belmore Park will be decked with Chinese hanging lanterns of red and gold, and a huge Ox lantern to greet the Year of the Ox.
The Chinese New Year Markets in Sydney Australia are the largest Lunar New Year celebration outside of Asia.
The Festival season begins on 23rd January and ends on 15th February 2009 with fifty different events included.
Chinese temple tours, Sydney Chinese Film Festival, Chinese art exhibitions, childrens entertainment, history, food and cultural tours, calligraphy demonstrations, opera and banquets will al be included.
