Australian Open 2009 Melbourne Park

The Australian Open Tennis 2008, held at Melbourne Park, turned out to be the most successful of all time with overall spectator numbers topping 605,735.

The first Grand Slam of the year saw Serbia's Novak Djokovic win the men’s final, winning his first Grand Slam, whilst Russia's Maria Sharapova won easily without dropping a set over the two weeks.

Homegirl Casey Dellacqua, made it to the fourth round, beating Patty Schnyder and former champion and world number one, Amelie Mauresmo.

The 2008 event saw the Australian Open’s youngest ever winner of the Junior Grand Slam, Bernard Tomic who beat Tsung-Hua Yang of Taiwan in the final.

The 2009 Australian Open will get underway on 19th January until 1st February attracting the world biggest and best tennis stars to the prestigious Grand Slam event.
