| The city of Cairns
is at the heart of Tropical North Queensland
and is the main gateway to Northern Australia. Cairns is
a very pretty city back dropped by rainforest mountains
and framed by coral seas.
This modern and sophisticated city opens doorways to the
Rainforest and Outback as well as a reef which is a World
Heritage site.
Access
to Cairns couldn’t be more simple with an international
airport just a few miles to the north of the city centre.
Regular long distance trains also stop in Cairns and the
port is an increasingly popular destination for overseas
cruise ships.
Almost a century of architecture is
on show in the city streets with a comfortable blend of
traditional Queenslander style and today’s modern designs.
Modern buildings dominate the city’s horizon with a mixture
of architectural designs including hotels
such as the Reef Hotel Casino, Cairns International Hotel
and the Cairns Convention Centre.
A focal point for the city is the
Cairns Esplanade which is nearly two kilometres of landscaped
parkland fringes and a busy thoroughfare with numerous restaurants
on one side, and a natural harbour inlet on the other. Each
year, thousands of people visit the Cairns Esplanade to
relax on the grass, eat at the many sidewalk cafes, meet
and speak with friends, wander under the trees, and just
to watch the many different birds which come to feed on
the waters edge.
The city also boast great shopping
and nightlife, botanic
gardens, a casino and convention centre, art galleries and
high standards of accommodation.
